Google Messages App Gets Multi-Recipient Messaging Feature with Updated UI

Google Messages, an Android-based messaging app, has recently received a significant update that could greatly enhance its popularity. In July, the app underwent a major redesign of its home screen, replacing the navigation drawer and incorporating key branding elements. Additionally, slight adjustments were made to the search filters. Now, the app has received another noteworthy upgrade in the form of a new forwarding user interface. This updated UI enables users to send messages to multiple contacts simultaneously, eliminating the need to manually copy and paste the same message to individual recipients.

According to a report by 9to5Google, the forwarding feature allows users to send a single message to multiple contacts at the same time without having to send it repeatedly to those contacts. To use this feature either in a text message, RCS chat, picture or other messages, long press the button for a few seconds and a pop-up menu will appear. There should be an option in the upper right corner that says “Forward”. Click on it and you can select the contacts you want to share the message with.

The Forward option opens an overlay window where users can see the names of different contacts as well as contact pictures, numbers and an option to select contact information. There is also an option to start a new message at the bottom. The new interface also displays a conversation list with the last message to give the user more context on what to forward.

Once you’ve selected the users, in the next window you’ll see the contact icons of the people you’re sending messages to, as well as a text box where you can write more messages to the same contacts. Google also helps separate group messages by displaying a “Share individually” tag at the top.

The update has not yet been widely released, but is expected to be available soon.
